Standing Together Amidst the Loss

Dear Docomomo US/SoCal Community,

Our hearts are heavy as we reflect on the devastating fires that have impacted our beloved Los Angeles. The heartbreaking loss of the architectural heritage we cherish is overshadowed by the deeply personal tragedies that so many have endured from the destruction that swept through our communities. It is the human stories, lives, and histories intertwined with our neighborhoods and their landmarks that make our sense of loss so profound.

Since 2013, Docomomo US/SoCal has been a beacon for those who value the connection between people and Modern places. Today, that mission feels more vital than ever as we work to rebuild and revitalize.

We encourage you to read the Statement from Docomomo US President and President Emeritus of our local chapter Katie Horak on the LA Fires, which includes resources for those seeking assistance or opportunities to contribute. It has been intensely moving to witness how our community has united in solidarity, offering strength and support to one another.

With so many affected, both within our Docomomo family and beyond, we remain committed to offering support during this challenging time and fostering stewardship of the historic resources still in our care. Together, we can honor the past and move forward with hope and determination.
